Current: The Lansdowne-Baltimore Highlands Senior Center is southwest Baltimore County's hub for educational, recreational, social and personal growth opportunities for active seniors 60+ years young. A variety of educational classes forms the core of quality offerings at the center. In addition to the Baltimore County Department of Aging program technicians, the Lansdowne-Baltimore Highlands Senior Center enjoys a unique partnership with the Community College of Baltimore County for the provision of classes that meet members' interests. The center also offers a diverse variety of informational programs and speakers focused on consumer education, health and nutrition education, pertinent senior issues and much, much more. Along with these programs, Lansdowne-Baltimore Highlands Senior Center has created a strong partnership with Leadership Through Athletics, which has a community facility where the center members can do their weekday walking. The Center has also partnered with the Lansdowne Public Library for a book club held at the center, and for a Kinder Korner reading program whereby center members read with preschool age children at the library. Together, all of these offerings make for a diverse range of educational opportunities and enjoyable events. Balancing out the opportunities for personal growth are a multitude of options for fun and leisure. The highlight of leisure opportunities is the center's travel program. The Travel Office plans exciting trips ranging from day excursions to multi-day adventures. The Travel Office considers affordability as a top priority, making these opportunities not only a great deal but also accessible to all. In addition to travel, the center offers up leisure in the form of cards, a pool room, shuffleboard and the ever-popular bingo. The senior center also provides a variety of health screenings throughout the year, including monthly blood pressure screenings in partnership with St. Agnes Hospital Volunteer Opportunities/Community Service. Our senior center model is both based and dependent on active participation and contributions from our membership and community. As such, we offer a wealth of volunteer/service opportunities for almost any interest from leadership to community outreach, activity planning and assistance, clerical assistance, garden maintenance and more. The possibilities are nearly endless. You can find your calling while making our center a better place and further enriching the lives of our nearly 500 members! Volunteering at Lansdowne-Baltimore Highlands Senior Center is a win-win situation all around!
